Rudolf Ammann Award 2024

During the 56th European Pancreatic Club meeting on 27th June 2024, Ms Viktória Szabó from Szeged / Hungary was honoured with the Rudolf Ammann Award 2024.

Following her studies in Molecular- and Microbiology at the University of Szeged, Ms Szabó finished her PhD in Theoretical Medicine in 2023 on “The effects of Orai1 calcium channel inhibition on the progression of chronic pancreatitis”. In addition to various national research awards she received the Best Abstract Presentation Prize of the UEGW (United European Gastroenterology Week) in 2023.

In her award-winning publication, Viktória Szabó and colleagues demonstrated that Orai1-mediated store-operated calcium entry may become overactivated in pathological states i.e. chronic pancreatitis (CP) resulting in intracellular calcium overload. They suggested that Orai1 inhibition could prevent the progression of early CP to end-stage disease.
